Don’t let doom and gloom news terrorize you out of doing things you wanna do and consider that you hear a disproportionate amount of bad news coming out of the US compared to reality.
Anecdotally my grandma lived in another country and was constantly terrified of the violence and constant strife in the US and feared for our safety because she saw non stop news about how bad things were here.
Meanwhile we were living in one of the safest parts of the country, and even probably the world and she lived a couple blocks away from a spot where a grenade was detonated on a train, her closest metro station was leveled by a suicide bomber and there were at least two stabbings on her own street that I know of.
The more I read about the states and the more time goes on, I just have less and less desire to ever visit.
As someone who lives here, I have more and more desire to leave.

Doom and gloom.
In summary, for our mental health, delete nextdoor and never look at national news. One is populated by busybodies and the other is just cancer.
Cool, you don’t have to come here then.
