350k players is criminally low for this game, especially considering it’s on game pass.

It’s not a perfect game, but it’s exceedingly well crafted. And plenty of large studios (starting with Game Freak) should be taking notes on how to do an open world game that doesn’t feel soulless or pointless.

I was thinking about trying it. I’ve always wanted to like Pokemon, but every video of it I’ve watched just makes it seem incredibly childish with the most boring combat system I’ve ever seen.

But, I like the idea of collecting Pokemon and needing to really search to complete a collection. But, I just can’t get past the apparently boring combat.

This cassette theme seems interesting, but is the combat interesting at all?

I am surprised it’s not more.

It’s super charming, has many interesting twists on the pokémon formula, a great ost, monster designs are good… it should be up there with other beloved indies.

Well for what it’s worth, this post is somehow the first I’ve heard of this game and I instantly bought it. It looks rad as hell! Idk how this game flew under my radar

Monster designs look super lame. I don’t know why every single one of those games has to go this kiddie route. They just end up competing with Pokemon, instead of actually filling other niches. Where are the games with super edgy beasts like dragons, big ass monsters, demons, angels, etc? Maybe let me frankenstein their body parts together that I rip off from the bloody battles to create my own custom monsters and eventually turn them into world destroying behemoths.

Like it or not, Pokemon is far and away the biggest influence on monster tamer games so most games are gonna look similar to it. I’m assuming you’ve probably heard of Shin Megami Tensei (though the gameplay is very un-Pokemonlike) but you might already look into Siralim or Monster Crown

It is, but it is also what already saturates the market with countless of titles by now, and that already has a lot of other monster tamer like games in that style, which means I’m not really surprised that this game isn’t going to be a super massive hit. Although I’d argue even Pokemon has at least a few somewhat cool monsters. Looking at the wiki page for this one I think I spotted maybe one.

No, and a search says this is from 92. That’s like recommending Jade Cocoon, which at least had some mild mechanics going into that sort of direction. But I’m talking about a modern and well supported title.

but you might already look into Siralim or Monster Crown

Never heard of them either but they look more like Dragon Quest Monsters, which I guess is mildly better by pushing the kiddo age range up towards the teenage range.

Shin Megami Tensei is a long-running series, though the games are all standalone (think Final Fantasy). I think SMT VI came out in the last 2 years, if you wanted to give it a try.

For a brief idea of it, it’s about convincing demons and spirits to join up with you as you move through some sort of post-apocalyptic world. You then end up fusing various spirits together in order to become stronger.

Because people like pokemon that’s why.

There’s plenty of games with “edgy monsters” and I literally always forget them. But a fucking crab with a traffic cone for a shell? I will NEVER forget.

Besides the last franchise that tried to compete with Pokemon on top of adding the edgy monsters was Digimon and that’s…questionable at best.

Calling Digimon edgy is hilarious. It’s just Pokemon but with constant crying. And so far no one actually managed to provide any examples of those games that you say exist plenty of. But then again, you consider Digimon one of them, soooo…

Shin Megami Tensei and Dragon Quest Monsters come to mind. Both have some edgy designs. Yes, Digimon has some as well.

Not that I even should have spent the time typing this, you’re just being rude so it’s hard to tell if you’re even making a good faith argument. What do you even mean by “Pokemon but with constant crying”?

SMT has already been mentioned and that doesn’t look too much better. DQM I also stated is maybe an upper from kiddo to teenage stuff. Yes, it has a little more better designs but overall it isn’t that great. The crying was in reference to the TV shows.

You call me rude but just repeat the same shit that has already been discussed here over the last few hours (long before your reply). Maybe try to gaslight someone else because I’m out.
